Curriculum
Primary Section (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5)
In the primary section, we blend the Lao National Curriculum and the Global Standard Curriculums. The school covers all Lao subjects required by the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports. The frameworks and approaches of the Japanese National Curriculum are applied in Music, P.E., and Arts & Crafts subjects. The texts from Cambridge Primary Curriculum are used in primary subjects: English (General English, Reading, and Writing), Math, and Science.
Subjects
Primary students study the following subjects: English, Language, Reading, Math, Science, P.E., Arts & Crafts, Music, Integrated Studies, Moral Education, Social Studies, Japanese, Library, and ICT (Computing). Primary continues to develop the child’s character in cognitive, moral, emotional, and physical areas with the concept of whole-person education.
◉ English/ Language/ Reading/ Library
Children develop English literacy through four subjects: English, Language, Reading, and Library. They include reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Children read a wide range of fiction and non-fiction including texts, leveled readers from Reading textbooks, and books from the library.
◉ Math
Mathematics develops the full range of numeracy skills through the Lao National Curriculum and the Cambridge Primary Mathematics Textbook, allows students to reinforce concepts learned, and enables them to acquire key 21st-century skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
◉ Science
Science adopts the Inquiry Approach with the Cambridge Primary Mathematics Textbook, engaging visuals and presentation formats with well-crafted activities to arouse students’ curiosity about the world around us. Students develop inquiry and process skills, critical thinking, as well as 21st-century skills.
◉ Lao
Lao instruction follows the Lao National Curriculum to develop Lao literacy in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Many studies show that the stronger the children’s mother tongue, the easier it is for them to learn new languages. Children, who have a solid foundation in their mother tongue, develop better literacy skills also in other languages that they learn. Also, the mother tongue connects the children with the culture of the society that he comes from and shapes their identity.
◉ Integrated Studies (Special Activities)
To enable students to think in their own way about life through cross-synthetic studies and inquiry studies, while fostering the qualities and abilities needed to find their own tasks, to learn and think on their own, to make proactive decisions, and to solve problems better. At the same time, enable students to acquire the habits of studying and thinking, cultivating their commitment to problem-solving and inquiry activities in a proactive, creative, and cooperative manner.
◉ Music
To encourage students to cultivate their sentiments, fundamental abilities for musical activities, a love for music as well as a sensitivity toward it, through music-making and appraising based on both Lao and Japanese National Curriculum. The students sing, listen and play various songs in the music class. Moreover, from Primary 3, the students begin to play a recorder, using a workbook called “Recorder Karate” to pursue their skill of playing a recorder in a fun way.
◉ Art & Craft
To enable children, by means of activities involving expression and appreciation, to savor the joy of creating while bringing their sensitivity into play. Also, at the same time, to foster the fundamental abilities underlying the creative activities that take the form of shaping and molding, thereby nurturing a rich fund of aesthetic sensitivity, based on the Lao and Japanese National Curriculum.
◉ Physical Education
To help children through proper exercise experience and understanding of health and safety, and by considering physical and mental aspects in an integrated manner Also, children develop basic qualities and the abilities to participate in enjoyable physical activity throughout their lives, maintain and improve their health and fitness and cultivate an appropriate attitude towards leading a pleasant and happy life.
◉ Moral Education & Social Studies
Social Studies develop the understanding of social life, how a peaceful and democratic society works, and their responsibility within it. It helps the children nurture a love and understanding of this country, the world, and the need to help preserve and protect the environment where they live. Moral education is aimed at cultivating morality as a foundation for developing global citizens with a proactive attitude who would apply a spirit of respect for human dignity and reverence for life in specific activities at home, school, and other social situations, have a generous spirit, respect traditions, and culture, love one’s country and hometown which have fostered such traditions and culture, create a culture with a distinctive character, honor the public spirit, make an effort to develop the democratic society and state, respect other countries, contribute to world peace and the development of the international community and the preservation of the environment, and have interest in exploring possibilities for the future.
◉ Information Communication Technology (ICT) & STEM Education
Children learn to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science; analyze problems in computational terms; evaluate and apply IT analytically to solve problems; to become responsible, competent, confident, and creative users of ICT. Children learn coding as the new literacy and apply it to actually program robots through robotic education.
◉ Japanese
Not only the Japanese Language is taught as a foreign language, but also Japanese Culture and Manners are introduced for children to develop global awareness and a sense of international mindedness.
