Curriculum
Issarapon International School(IIS), accredited by the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports and registered as an International Primary Curriculum(IPC) member school, follows the Lao National Curriculum and incorporates the frameworks and approaches from the Global Standard Curriculums, such as IPC, Japanese National Curriculum, and England National Curriculum because they are in fact highly appreciated worldwide by educators and families.
Our school implements an English immersion curriculum that approximately 60% of students’ instructional day/week is conducted in English.
Immersion Education
The immersion is an approach to second language instruction in which the usual curricular activities are conducted in the second language. This means that the new language is the medium of instruction as well as the object of instruction.
School Language and Content Goal
- (English) to achieve competency in the second language
- (Lao) to perform as well or better than students in non-immersion schools
- (Content areas) to master content area knowledge and skills
- (Cultural Sensitivity) to gain a better understanding and appreciation of other cultures
Curriculum Overview
Nursery & Kindergarten Section (N, K1, K2, K3)
In kindergarten, we blend the Lao National Curriculum and Japanese Course of Study for Kindergarten, which is child-centered and based upon the principle of whole person education that focuses on social and emotional development, friendship and responsibility. The children learn interpersonal skills, group rules, and affection by playing with friends, nurture affection for animals and plants by caring for school animals and plants, and develop creativity and artistic abilities by drawing, crafting, singing and dancing. We follow a thematic-based approach, have many school events over the course of the school year, and emphasize on sports, music, art and food education in addition to academic activities for child’s healthy development.
